‘Puffer House’

2022

Puffer House is a futurist protoarchitectural material study that interrogates the quintessential puffer jacket as an architectural form. This project, grounded in the ethos of "girls who get it, get it," delves into the conceptual amalgamation of architecture and wearables. It draws inspiration from the notion of the hermit crab, wherein individuals carry their domicile with them through their attire. The puffer jacket's silhouette begins to adopt architectural characteristics, provoking a dialogue about the inversion of this concept.

Within Puffer House, the seams of the jacket are reimagined as architectural trim, while the apertures for sleeves and waist are reconceptualized as doors and windows. This transformative approach challenges the conventional demarcations of architecture, prompting a reevaluation of its boundaries and the specificity of its detailing in contrast to other material objects. By blurring the lines between architecture and fashion, Puffer House fosters a critical examination of our built environment and the garments we inhabit, ultimately expanding the discourse on materiality and spatiality in contemporary design.
